Green Choice Insulation Facts

Will insulation affect your bills?

Insulation can affect your bills in more ways than you probably imagine. According to the Leominster Housing Authority, monthly utility bills were an average of 32% lower in cellulose insulated buildings1. Not only will cellulose save you money on your utility bills, but you will save on the cost of original and replacement mechanical equipment and maintenance. Your heating and cooling systems can be downsized, will last longer, will run less and will require less maintenance - all of which saves you money.

Different insulations are made from fundamentally different materials. Tests at Oak Ridge and Brookhaven National Laboratories and the University of Illinois reveal that insulations with the same R-values do not perform equally in real homes. Researchers found that the effective R-value of cellulose increases during cold weather, while the effective R-value of blown fiberglass decreases during both cold weather and summer weather.
